Difference Between Government In Britain And Government In Colonial America Was That The Colonies

The difference between the government in Britain and the government in colonial America was that:

1. The colonies’ government was controlled by the King and Parliament of Great Britain via appointing British Royal Governor and Royal officials; they had very limited power.

But contrary to this, the government of Britain kept control on their own; they had unlimited power.

2. The colonies’ government was less powerful than the government of Britain, after all, it had to be always accountable to the British crown and Parliament.

However, Britain’s government always needed to be accountable to their common people (British citizens).

But whatever, unlike colonies’ government, they needn’t be accountable to other country’s government.

3. The colonial government was less stable than the government of Britain. Because sometimes, using power, British Royal Governor could easily dissolve the colonial government. For example, in 1775, Massachusetts Governor General Thomas Gage dissolved its locally elected provincial assembly.

4. The colonies’ had no system of unified (Central) government system in their own land (in America); but Britain had it on their own, which was, of course, situated in London.

So, What All These Pieces of Stuff Prove Then?

1. First of all, it proves that the people of the 13 colonies had no effective role in their own administration system.

2. Secondly, it proves that the 13 colonies were a part of the British Empire; they were under colonial rule.

3. Thirdly, it proves that the colonies’ government couldn’t take decisions independently. They needed to be always accountable to the Royal Governor and English laws.
