George Washington Was An Enormously Popular General. Why Didn’t He Try To Become A King?

George Washington was not only an enormously popular and skilled military General; but he was also an honest person, who believed in doing great work without being greedy for external benefits.

After the Americans’ victory in the Revolutionary War, George Washington even thought to take retirement from public life and pass the rest of his life in farming.

So, in this case, we can easily understand that it was beyond his planning to try to become the king of the newly formed United States.

Either way, Washington believed in democracy, he valued and respected the struggle of the 13 colonies’ people for achieving independence from Great Britain.

Did He Have The Ability To Become The King of The United States?

Yes, I believe George Washington definitely had the capability to become the king of the United States of America.

Probably he would have become a great king. Because all the things he did while in the presidency are a sign of a great ruler.

Would The People of The United States Accept Him As A King?

This was very unlikely because the people living in the 13 colonies were fighting for such a system of governance in which they could have participated effectively.

Americans fought for democracy, but not for autocracy. Therefore, chances were high; they wouldn’t accept Washington as their king.
