1. The participation of the Soviet Union & China: The first reason was the participation of two major Communist nations, China and the Soviet Union.

The war not only remained limited between North and South Vietnam, but it transformed into a major conflict between Communist and Anti-Communist nations.

These two big countries provided support to the North Vietnamese by providing better arms, military personnel, money, and other necessary equipment. 

Because of this support, they succeeded in making huge casualties of the well-equipped US forces.

2. Guerilla Warfare: Guerilla Warfare techniques were highly used by the Vietnamese against American soldiers.

Because the war was fought in Vietnam’s jungles, therefore Guerilla technique helped them a lot.

Mostly, they made thousands of underground tunnels to execute this technique successfully.

3. Vietnam’s Environment Was New To The US Soldiers: Vietnam’s combat environment was completely new to the US soldiers.
