Yes, Black Friday is definitely the biggest shopping day of the year in the United States of America since 2005.

Black Friday shopping continues for almost a week. The first Monday after Thanksgiving is called “Cyber Monday”, it promotes e-commerce or digital shopping.

Currently, Cyber Monday is the biggest and busiest online shopping day of the year.

However, Black Friday is much bigger than this because it covers both offline and online transactions.

How Black Friday Has Become A Big Day For Shopping?

Black Friday started gaining popularity from the years between 1952-1961.

At that time, the Police administration of Philadelphia and Rochester started using terms like “Black Friday”, “Black Saturday”, and “Black Sunday” to describe the massive crowd gatherings and traffic jams during the days of the Christmas shopping season.

Interestingly, all the headaches for the Police administrations started the day after Thanksgiving and it was Friday.

It is said that in 1961, some public relations experts in Philadelphia tried to rebrand the days’ names to “Big Friday”, “Bid Saturday” or “Big Sunday” instead of using the word “Black” with them because it represented negatively.

However, all the terms were soon forgotten.

In the 21st century, Black Friday is getting bigger and bigger with the help of the internet and some major social media channels like YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. And again, we can’t deny the role of some major search engines like Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc.

In 2005, it has become the biggest shopping day of the year.

Do You Know?
