Why Is The Declaration of Independence Considered A Revolutionary Document?

There are so many reasons, why most historians all over the world consider the Declaration of Independence a revolutionary document.

Here are its three main reasons below:

  • Through the Declaration of Independence, the colonists of the 13 British American colonies declared independence from the Empire of Great Britain.
  • This document established a strong foundation of the democratic system in world politics. It was for the first time in the world that common people came further for fighting on such a large scale to protect their rights.
  • This document has widely propagated that in a country the government or king is not the actual source of power. But a nations’ actual power comes from its people. They give this power to a king or government to protect their natural rights. Those rights are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.

These three points are the main reasons why many historians consider the Declaration as a revolutionary document.
